As the weather turns cold you’re likely to spend more time indoors. If you’re like me, you notice
household projects that got put on the back burner during the summer months and are screaming for attention now that the air conditioner is off and you’re inside. Household projects always go more smoothly when you have a plan. Fall is a great time to develop a plan and then you have the coming months to tackle the indoor projects. First take a slow walk through your house with a notebook and pen – write down all the maintenance or repairs needed in each room. Once you have your list completed, prioritize the list based on time required or cost. Highlight the low cost, low time commitment projects. These are the ones you can do as part of multi-tasking. For example you can call the doctor’s office to schedule your flu shot while you pack away the bathing suits and beach towels for the summer or repair the loose screws on switch plates in the kitchen.
Before you start any project you have never done visit one of these websites such as ehow.com, hgtv.com, or diynetwork.com to learn the steps. If you still need more answers visit your local hardware store and ask for help. Most importantly, know your limits. We’re not all electricians or plumbers so if the job is beyond your skill set or would require expensive tools, consider hiring a professional.
As you work give yourself deadlines and stick to it! Hold yourself accountable and your house will be transformed and your ‘to do’ list will be finished!
