A sense of accomplishment is a great feeling. Whether you’re a first grader who gets an ‘A’ on a spelling test or a busy mom who finally had time to clean the kitchen…accomplishing something above and beyond feels great. For many, getting organized has been something unaccomplished for too long. But I challenge you to not think of this as “getting organized” but to choose a very specific, defined space and choose to organize it. For example, choose to organize a shelf in your linen closet rather than organizing the entire bathroom! When you break the task of “getting organized” into smaller pieces you will find a sense of accomplishment.
I found this to be true for me recently when I took on the hundredpushups.com and twohundredsitups.com challenge. The idea of doing 100 pushups is laughable. Likewise, lifting my torso 200 times almost made me want to barrel over… and not to complete a sit-up but for a different reason! Nonetheless, in an effort to spice up my fitness routine and increase my muscle capacity I took on this challenge. These two websites create a 6 week routine that allows you to build up to 100 pushups and 200 sit ups. This allowed me to take one week at a time and to manage the challenge. So now that six weeks have passed I can proudly say I have done 100 pushups and 200 sit ups. I felt a sense of accomplishment at the end of each week and again at the end of 6 weeks when I completed the entire training program! (FYI…these pictures are not of me, it’s clipart!)
Similarly if you have 6 shelves in your linen closet and each Thursday evening you clean off and organize one shelf – after 6 weeks your entire linen closet will be organized. It is not a race… set a goal, a schedule and after time you will be organized and have that sense of accomplishment!
