Plan your Holiday Road Trip

Going on a road trip this holiday season? Start now to plan and get organized. There are many things you can do now that will save you time and money when you’re on the road with 90% of the other Thanksgiving holiday travelers…good luck!
Know the roads. Don’t plan to rely 100% on your GPS. Have a map and know the route. Your GPS may not find the exact location, the battery may die, your charger may break, etc. – I don’t want to be a pessimist but I want you to be prepared for anything!
Pack light. Avoid strapping luggage or cargo to the roof of your car – this will hurt your gas mileage. Instead take only what you need and make sure you can fit it inside the car.
Sort and store. Get your car organized with a modular storage system such as the Mountainsmith Modular Hauler. Or a similar system to easily fit in your truck or backseat. The color coded system and see thru tops allow for easy access and easy storage of just about anything…snacks, gear, toys, etc.
Color code. Assign each passenger a color. That person’s color represents their color of water bottle, travel pillow, etc. This avoids fights and keeps germs from spreading.
Stock up. Stock up on the essentials for a road trip. The glove box is a great place to store the essentials such as hand lotion, hand sanitizer, gum/breath mints, tissues, napkins, camera, batteries, etc. And if you’re in my family an ample supply of Swedish Fish is a must have for any road trip!
Don’t forget while on the road to stop at rest stops/welcome centers to pick up brochures and coupons to save money and learn more about the area. Road trips are a great way to spend time with your loved ones. Get organized now so you can buckle up and enjoy the ride later!
