Christmas is over but do not take down your holiday decorations just yet. Make sure you organize your decorations so when it comes time to decorate again next year the process goes smoother and quicker.
- If you like how your house is decorated for the holidays this year, take pictures of your house before you take down the decorations. This helps you remember how your house is decorated so you can recreate the holiday magic in 2010!
- If you have a strand of garland or lights that fit well in a certain place in your house (i.e. around a door frame or banister) label the strand so you know where to put it next year.
- Get rid of old boxes and replace them with color-coded storage containers. Red and green plastic bins allow you to keep your attic, basement, garage or storage shed more organized by knowing which containers are the holiday décor.
- It’s ok to stock up on clearance holiday décor now for next year…only if you have room to store the items all year long. Plan ahead – don’t just buy it because it is on clearance.
- Finally and most importantly, you spent a lot of time decorating your home for the holidays take the time to enjoy it. Don’t feel rushed to take your holiday decorations down right away. Leave them up for a few more days and enjoy the holiday season!

Since we cannot have Christmas all year (although I wish we could) you might as well enjoy it as long as you can and make next year easier on yourself. Staying organized while you undecorate helps make the process of decorating next year more organized…now that’s a great way to start 2010!
