I’ve heard women refer to their purse as “the black hole” or “my Mary Poppins bag” because their trusty carry all isn’t so trusty. In reality it’s a large bag that carries everything but the kitchen sink and they can never find what they need. Your purse should be your “command center” away from home. It should be your ‘go to’ whether you need to answer the phone or stop a runny nose. There are certainly things that don’t belong in your purse – the first step in getting your purse organized is to get rid of the things that don’t belong. The biggest culprit of this is trash. Most women will find a candy wrapper, used tissue, or piece of scrap paper buried at the bottom of their purse. In order to keep your purse tidy, clear out the trash and the next time, use a waste bin, not your purse!
Make sure your purse is “organizable”. Huh? If it’s not a word, it is now! Invest in a bag that fits your lifestyle. Make sure the bag has multiple pockets for divided storage. A secure closer for obvious security is a must. Finally, your purse needs handles that are at a comfortable length for you. For example, if I can’t pick up my purse with one hand and easily slide it onto my shoulder, the handles are too short. It’s the one hand rule for me, if I need a second hand to slide it up my arm, the bag won’t work for me. Everyone is different so find a style that fits you.
Small zippered pouches work great to store lipsticks, tampons, pens, etc. in your purse. Any small items that easy get buried to the bottom of the bag or lost need to be stored in a separate compartment for easy access. Small pencil pouches or cosmetic pouches are ideal.
Ideally, the purse will have an interior pocket that will fit your keys and cell phone. These are probably your most accessed items so you want to put them in pockets that won’t move. Always put those in the same place in your purse and you will always be able to find them – in or outside your home!
Use a mini photo album or mini accordion file to store receipts, tickets, or business cards. Keeping these items together will make your purse organized and your life simpler will it comes time to make a phone call or pay your bills.
I’ve personally never tried but I have heard many organizers give rave reviews to items like the purseket. The Purseket is an insert that you place in any purse giving you instant pockets and compartments for all your miscellaneous items. In theory this item would eliminate the random items floating in your purse. With the purseket, every item in your purse would have a home…now that’s organization!
Get your purse organized now. This is one of those tasks that seems daunting but once you start you’ll realize it only takes a few minutes. And the benefits will be huge…no more “Mary Poppins bag” just to find your keys! Enjoy your newly organized purse.
