Don’t panic but in case you haven’t heard on Sunday morning at 2am we’ll lose one hour in our day. For those who plan your day to the minute this is a big deal! Not only do we get less sleep but we’ll likely be tired the next day too. Before we panic that our Sunday will not be as productive here are a couple tips to help Sunday go smoother…
- Before you go to bed on Saturday night set your clocks forward one hour. Set all the clocks in the house forward, that way when you wake up you’re not confused as to what clocks are right.
- Don’t plan on Sunday being your most productive day of the week. You’ll likely find that you’ll be tired Sunday and Monday from the time change. So plan your to do’s accordingly. Only tackle what has to be done. Expect kids to be extra tired too which may impede your plans as well.
Use the time change to your advantage. Since the time changes twice a year use this as a reminder to do certain things that should be done twice a year. Here are some ideas just to name a few:
- Change the batteries in your smoke alarm

Use Daylight Savings Time to get organized! The time "springs" forward one hour at 2am on Sunday, March 14, 2010.
- Go to the dentist (I just went on Thursday…no cavities)
- Change your seasonal clothes in your closet – this helps you determine what spring/summer clothes need to be purchased for the months ahead, especially for kids
- Throw away old make-up (make-up does expire, usually after 6 months)
- Clean out your kitchen junk drawer - most of us have one, don’t be ashamed
- Get your car serviced – a change of seasons is the perfect time to get your car serviced and ready so you can use the air conditioning, get new windshield wiper blades for spring showers, etc.
- Update your family’s emergency supply kit to reflect the change of seasons
- Consider meeting twice a year with a professional organizer for a “check up”. For a brief assessment she/he can can identify areas in your home or life where you can be more organized and offer suggestions for improved productivity.
What are other household tasks that we do twice a year? Use the Daylight Savings Time Change as a reminder to get these things done!
