We start and end our day in the same place so it’s important that this room is organized. Our bedroom should reflect the state of mind we want to be – peaceful, stress-free, relaxed, productive and calm. Here are 10 Bedroom Organizing Tips so you can start and end your day more organized:
- If it doesn’t belong in the bedroom, take it out. This includes sports equipment, food, craft supplies, kid’s toys, etc.
- Toss or donate clothes that are old, stained, do not fit well, out dated, worn, etc. A good rule of thumb is if you haven’t worn it in 12 months then you probably won’t. If you’re unsure what you actually wear, turn your hangers backwards (so the hook of the hanger faces you, not away from you). Once you wear the item turn the hanger the “right-way”. After 12 months you’ll know what items you’ve worn based on the direction of the hanger.
- Put clean clothes away. Put dirty clothes in the hamper. If it’s ½ clean or ½ dirty, lose the identity crisis and give it a home.
- Shoes are not to be piled. Match up shoes. Group shoes by color. Keep only what you need and wear. Store shoes on low shelves in your closet or lined across the floor in your closet. If odor is an issue, store dryer sheets in your shoes to absorb moisture and odor.
- Make your bed every day! This not only makes your room look clean and organized but it keeps your sheets cleaner!
- Use a hamper. Don’t pile dirty clothes on the floor or a piece of furniture. Dirty clothes are not a household accessory.
- Use an over the door hook on your closet or entrance door to hang your clothes for the next day. Picking out your clothes the night before saves you time in the morning and helps you rest better.
- Clear horizontal surfaces.
- Avoid the pile of miscellaneous things that accumulate on the nightstand. Limit yourself to an alarm clock, glass of water and 1 book that you’re currently reading.
- Go to bed at the same time and wake up at the same time each day. Not only will you sleep better but this routine will help you develop an organized bedroom routine as well.
An organized bedroom will give you the peace of mind to rest easy at night and the confidence to start your day on the right foot!
