In January last year I declared “out with the old and in with the new in 2010” and this year our motto is “new year, new you!” 2010 is officially behind us (except for filing 2010 taxes, yuk!) and we can start fresh. Now is the chance to evaluate your home, your routine, your chores, your closets, and your time to determine what needs to change. It’s a new year and a new opportunity to make a change…to improve the status quo.
How many of you made New Year’s Resolutions? Rather than declaring a New Year’s Resolution and forgetting it 6 days later, set GOALS for yourself. For each goal identify 3 actionable and measureable objectives to help you achieve your goal.
Hold yourself accountable for your goals and objectives by:
- Share your goals with a trusted friend. Ask your friend to check in with you periodically to see how you’re doing. When you know someone will be asking you about progress and encouraging you to move forward you will be more likely to do it.
- Write your goals and objectives and display it where you can see it daily. Consider the bathroom mirror, refrigerator, car dashboard or inside your planner.
- Post your goals on your FB page and share your progress with your “friends”.
- Give yourself a deadline for each objective. When you meet your deadline and you’ve achieved the objective then reward yourself. Determine what motivates you – a pedicure, a box of chocolate, a new book, a session with a professional organizer – and treat yourself! You deserve a reward…keep it up!
Say goodbye to resolutions and hello to goals. 2011 is a new year and a new YOU! Make this year about you and change what needs to be changed!
